Choose your first-choice residence and apply online. Add a 2nd and 3rd choice with Also consider.

Upload what we need. The application checklist lists every document.

Accepted? Pay the R250 agency fee and sign your lease online. Leases are emailed from 4 January 2027. Your room is only reserved once both are done.

Move-ins open on 11 January 2027. Collect your keys and settle in. The Student Portal has everything from day one.

Yes. Residences more than 2 km from campus include transport, in line with university policy and the minimum norms and standards. Residences closer than 2 km are within walking distance. There's no transport allowance or cashback.
You submit one application, but it can include more than one residence. In step 3, Choose Your Residence, choose your first choice: this is your primary application. Then mark up to two other residences with Also consider. We'll look at those if your first choice is full.
Both. Semi-sharing rooms take a maximum of 2 students of the same gender, and several residences offer single rooms only.
Every room is fully furnished, and uncapped WiFi, laundry and parking (terms apply) are free.
No. Cooking in rooms is not allowed under UJ policy because it is a fire and safety (OHS) hazard. You may bring your own fridge.
You are liable for rent at the cash rate for the months you stayed.
